This Centre has been set up in the east of Romania primarily for young people to enjoy watersports. It is situated beside Lake Corbu, about 20 kms north of Constanta, Romania’s second city and port on the Black Sea. The well-equipped Centre provides holidays for Romanians and for foreign visitors, who come to learn or to practice canoeing and kayaking as well as enjoying many other activities (wind-surfing also soon). Other popular trips are to the beach, and to the Danube delta, a world wildlife park. The archaeological remains of a Graeco-Roman city can be visited nearby.
The Centre occupies a site of about 3 hectares overlooking the lake, and has two modern cabins sleeping up to 40 guests, with additional space available for tents. There are modern toilets and a well-equipped kitchen etc. The site has several games pitches, and games equipment is available. An active farm occupies part of the site, with animals and crops which can be of interest to school children.
The Centre has been developed under the guidance of international experts who ensure the maintenance of high safety standards. It is equipped mainly with fibreglass canoes and kayaks, and life jackets are provided for everyone to wear on the water. All visitors are accompanied on the lake by instructors qualified to BCU standards.
The main season is from June to September, although the Centre is open all the year round for short conferences and fellowship activities. Groups of all sizes can be catered for, from families visiting for a weekend, to larger groups of young people learning to canoe for the first time. Groups can arrange their own programmes, and combine canoeing with other activities, such as visits to the beach or other places of interest. They can come for relaxation or for teaching or instruction. Special visits to watch birds in the delta, or to undertake conservation studies can also be arranged.
Visitors are advised to arrive at Constanta by train, where they will be met and transported to the Centre by mini-bus. Foreign visitors arriving by air into Bucharest (Otopeni) may travel either by internal flight or by train to Constanta, or may be taken direct to the Centre by mini-bus. A courier service is available to meet international flights, and advanced purchase of rail tickets and booking of hotel accommodation arranged.
